Orchestration

Overview

An Orchestration decides which Experience each visitor sees, on which pages and when. It combines page context, the visitor profile and Segments, and it works for anonymous visitors as well as logged-in users.

Create one in Audience Operation → Orchestration → New Orchestration. For a step-by-step walkthrough, see How to Set Up UniSignIn Experience on your website.

Settings

  • Name and Project: the site the Orchestration runs on.
  • Enable: turn the Orchestration on or off.
  • Enable Auto Schedule: run it only between a Start time and an End time, e.g. for a campaign.
  • Event: when the Experience is delivered, e.g. on each Pageview.

Targeting

Targeting has two parts, Context and User Profile. A visitor must match both.

  • Conditions in the same group are combined with OR.
  • Groups are combined with AND: use + Add Group for another condition that must also match.

Context

Conditions on the page and the visit:

ConditionExamples
Domain, URL, Path, URL Queryonly on /sport/f1/, only with ?utm_source=newsletter
Page title, Page canonical, Meta propertyarticles with a given meta tag
Article age (days)articles older than 7 days
First Referrer, Last Referrervisitors from a search engine or social network
Day of week, Day of month, User hour of dayonly at weekends, only in the evening
Cookie, LocalStorage variable, Data Layer, Javascript Resultvalues set by your own site or tags

User Profile

Conditions on who the visitor is, using any field of the visitor profile: reading behaviour, registration, subscription, email engagement and tags. For example:

  • Loyal readers: Active days (last 30 days) greater than or equal to 5
  • Sports fans: Content categories read (last 30 days) contains Football
  • Not yet registered, or not yet subscribed: Subscription Status does not equal active

In segment targets everyone in a saved Segment, including rules that use data only UniSignIn knows, such as newsletter subscriptions of logged-in users.

Personal details such as names, email addresses and phone numbers can't be used for targeting.

Deliver Experience

Add up to 3 Experiences and choose how they are delivered:

  • Non-A/B testing: every matching visitor gets all the Experiences.
  • A/B testing: split visitors between the Experiences by percentage, e.g. 50% / 50%. A visitor keeps seeing the same variant.

Measure

Open the Orchestration's insight to see how often each Experience was shown and clicked, and by how many visitors. To see which Experiences lead to sign-ups, newsletter subscriptions and paid subscriptions, use the Conversions section of the Audience Overview.

Ideas

  • Show a registration offer to loyal readers who are still anonymous.
  • Stop showing subscription offers to active subscribers.
  • Tag readers of a section with a Segment Tag and target them across your sites.
  • Link your sign-up call to action with the sign up link to measure which Experience drives registrations.
