Ask Engaged Readers to Subscribe to Your Newsletter

Overview

A newsletter prompt works best on readers who already like your content. This on-page journey shows the Email Subscription box to logged-out readers of your sport section who have read 3 or more articles this week, when they scroll halfway down an article.

Scrolls down 50% → Page URL contains /sport/? → Logged in? → 3+ articles this week?
└─ No: nothing └─ Yes: nothing ├─ Yes → Show Experience: Newsletter box
                                                                └─ No: nothing

Before you start

Create an Email Subscription experience for your sport newsletter in Audience Operation → Experience. Set Show at most to 1 per Week so readers aren't asked on every article. See Run newsletters.

Build the journey

  1. Go to Audience Operation → Journey → New Journey. Name it Sport newsletter prompt, pick your project and choose On the page.
  2. Click the first step: Start when a visitor Scrolls down the page, 50 percent, How often Every time.
  3. Add a Yes/No Split on Something about the page: URL contains /sport/.
  4. On its Yes path, add a Yes/No Split on Whether they are logged in.
  5. On that split's No path, add a Yes/No Split on How many pages or articles they viewed: at least 3 Articles viewed per Week.
  6. On its Yes path, add Show Experience with your newsletter box.
  7. Click Publish.

Every other path ends without showing anything.

Measure

The Show Experience step shows how many visitors saw the box, how often and its click rate. Sign-ups appear in the Conversions section of the Audience Overview.

Ideas

  • Replace the URL check with a Data Layer value your CMS sets for the section.
  • For logged-in readers, split on the Email subscriber field instead, and show the box only to those who don't subscribe yet.
  • Add a Random Split before Show Experience to test two versions of the box.
