Data Form

Overview

Data Form asks readers to fill in a short form, for example their interests, their job title or how often they read your site. You choose the fields, and the answers go into the reader's profile.

Readers who are signed in see the answers they gave before already filled in. Readers who are not signed in can answer too: they add their email to the form, or click Sign in if they have an account.

You can show the form in three ways:

  • In a page, as a card where you place it.
  • In a modal box, inside a Modal Box experience.
  • As a pop-up, shown by an Orchestration.

Before you start

The fields come from a form you build once in Data Collection:

  1. Go to Features > Data Collection and turn on Enable Data Collection.
  2. Click New Data Collector.
  3. Enter a Name and turn on Enable. A form that is not enabled is not shown on your pages.
  4. Turn on Anonymous answers to see the answers from readers who are not signed in, see below.
  5. Drag fields from Choose fields from into Your Data Form. Drag them up and down to change their order. You can use standard profile fields and your own profile fields.
  6. Click Save Changes.

Set up

  1. Go to Audience Operation > Experience and click New Experience.
  2. Pick Data Form, then click Next Step.
  3. Enter a Name, choose the Project and turn on Enable.
  4. Set the settings:

Put it on your pages

In a page

Place the container where the form should appear. Copy it from the experience, which fills in its ID, or replace EXPERIENCE_ID yourself:

<div data-exp="unis-exp-form" data-exp-id="EXPERIENCE_ID"></div>

If an Orchestration already delivers this Data Form to the page, you can leave out data-exp-id.

In a modal box

  1. Copy the snippet under In a modal box's content from the experience.
  2. Paste it into the Content of a Modal Box experience.

As a pop-up

Add the experience to an Orchestration that targets the pages and readers you want. See Orchestration. You don't need to change your site: the form opens over the page.

The pop-up stays out of the way of readers who are done with it:

  • Once a reader sends the form, it is not shown to them again.
  • Signed-in readers who have already answered every field don't see it.
  • If a reader closes it, it doesn't come back straight away.

Where the answers go

After a reader sends the form, they see "Thanks, your answers are saved." A pop-up then closes by itself.

  • Signed-in readers: the answers are saved in their profile, in the fields of the form. You see them on the reader's profile in Data Management > User Data.
  • Readers who are not signed in: the answers are kept with the email they entered. If Anonymous answers is on for the form, go to Features > Data Collection and click Data next to the form to see them.

Use the answers in segments

Answers saved in profiles can be used as rules in Segments, for example to target readers who said they are interested in sport. See Profile fields.
